STUDENT & YOUTH PROGRAMS -
"Out & About in LA" ESL Programs
Out & About in LA was born when Lisa Patriquin, Coordinator of UCLA's American Language Center (ALC), approached Red Line Tours looking for a way to inspire her students. Specifically, the program was to target advanced and intermediate level students learning English as a second language. The already highly successful program is made up of students' whose backgrounds cross cultural boundaries and were somewhat new to Los Angeles. Most had never explored the heart of the city and what they knew about Los Angeles was limited to what they might have seen in movies or television. Lisa's concept was to immerse students in an experience that would, in turn, inspire them to produce creative results at final presentation time. It worked.
"We knew the program could help us meet our goals but we had no idea just how impactful the program would really be. After experiencing the tour program students produced the best presentations we have seen in the history of the program. We directly attribute the success of our mission to Red Line's quality program." - Lisa Patriquin
Lisa's students not only produced great presentations, they left the program with a greater appreciation for Los Angeles. There are many myths and half-truths about Los Angeles. Students discovered what was authentic and exciting about Los Angeles, put practical application to the words and concepts in the real world.
